2014 C Teddy Meissner has committed to Rollins College!

Teddy is a true testament of hard work. Teddy came to try out for our team when he was a freshman entering his first year of High School Baseball at St. Thomas Aquinas. Although Teddy was still pretty good then, he was a bit undersized and not in the best of shape, well at least compared to the other Catcher we took at the time. However, not making our team his freshman year didn’t stop him. Speaking with his father this past weekend he told me at that time something clicked for Teddy and he realized he had to work hard if he wanted to accomplish something. Needless to say, Teddy has been working hard since that day and its certainly paid off.

Teddy showed up to our camp in December of 2012, about a year and half since we had last scene him. He wasn’t the short, kind of chubby kid anymore. He was now pushing 6’0 and a strong 180 pounds. Not only did he now look great, he played great that weekend and was invited to play with The Elite Squad this past summer. “I remember having a few words with Teddy right when the camp was over. We hadn’t even discussed our team breakdowns with the other coaches but I knew we had to keep him. He came over to me and thanked me for the opportunity to work out in front of the colleges. I told him that even though its been two years or so, I still remember him because it was such a hard decision not to keep him back then because there were so many things he did well. I also thanked him for not taking it personal and coming back to give it another shot. I felt it was important for him to hear how impressed we were with him that weekend but also how it was so easy to tell all the hard work and improvements he’s made since the last time we saw him. He definitely made an impression on our staff and especially myself. If we gave out an award for most improved after the camp, he would have won it, hands down” – Richie Palmer

Before the summer started Teddy was named the starting catcher at St. Thomas Aquinas in under New Head Coach, Troy Cameron. Teddy was a key contributor to his team that reached the state semifinal game before losing a heartbreaking 2-1 loss to push them in the championship game. Teddy hit .313, 2HR and 18RBI’s for the Raiders during the spring season. Teddy only got better as the summer rolled around and was a fixture in the middle of the lineup for our 17u TPX team and a leader behind the dish.

We know how things at the next level get harder both on and off the field, we also know with Teddy’s work ethic and character he is going to make an impact for Rollins’ baseball team the same way he’s been doing for the past two years or so….

Congratulations to Teddy and the Meissner Family!
